Last Time Out

• After conceding a game-tying goal in the 88th minute, junior Matthew Goncalves scored with 17 seconds left, lifting the Big Red to a 2-1 victory over Brown at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Saturday.

• Goncalves, who has now scored in each of his last three matches, logged his second consecutive game-winning goal, potting the eventual game-winner in last Tuesday's upset victory over then-No. 7 Syracuse.

• The Everett, Mass., native also assisted on the Big Red's first goal of the match, which came off the boot of senior Brandon Morales. Senior defender Connor Drought and senior midfielder Noel Ortega also logged assists in the win.

Crunching the Numbers

• As Cornell boarded the bus for its one-hour trip north to Syracuse, the United Soccer Coaches poll was released, which featured Cornell in the top 25 for the first time this season.

• The No. 22 ranking marks the second consecutive season, and third time over the Big Red's last four years of competition that they have been achieved a top-25 ranking.

• Cornell is the lone Ivy League program currently ranked in the top 25, while Penn and Yale are currently receiving votes.

What's at Stake

• Cornell enters Tuesday's match on a six-game win streak, which matches the program's longest since also posting six consecutive victories between Sept. 16 and Oct. 9, 2018.

• A victory Tuesday would be the Big Red's seventh straight victory, marking the program's longest win streak since opening the 2012 season on a 12-game win streak.

Road Warriors

• With Saturday's victory in Providence to Brown, Cornell improved to 25-9-1 on the road since the beginning of the 2018 season, good for a .729 win percentage.

• Cornell is one of five Division I schools to post a win percentage north of .700 on the road over the last four-plus seasons. Missouri State (.828) and Washington (.743) have higher percentages, while Saint Mary's (.721) and New Hampshire (.706) are the remaining programs with at least a .700 road win percentage during that span.

• Additionally, Cornell's 25 wins since the beginning of the 2018 season are the second-most by a Division I program, trailing top-ranked Washington who has 27 wins.

• Following Sunday's matches, the Big Red are 7-0-0 on the road this season, one of six teams undefeated on the road in 2022. Vermont (5-0-0), Washington (4-0-0), Navy (3-0-0), Virginia (2-0-0), and Missouri State (1-0-0) are the other programs to only post victories on the road in 2022.

• After the conclusion of Sunday's matches, Cornell's seven road victories are the most by any Division I program this season. Vermont (5-0-0), Xavier (5-0-1), Western Michigan (5-1-1), Lipscomb (5-1-1), Cleveland State (5-0-1), Duquesne (5-1-2), Denver (5-1-2), and Gardner-Webb (5-2-2) are the other teams with five road wins this year.

• Dating back to last year, Cornell has won its last eight road matches, which is the longest active Division I streak. Vermont is behind the Big Red with its seven-game streak.

One of the Best

• Cornell's .900 win percentage, thanks to its 9-1-0 record, is tied with Kentucky (8-0-2) for the nation's second-highest win percentage. Only Washington currently has a higher win percentage following Sunday's matches (11-0-1 — .958).

• The Big Red's nine victories are tied with Vermont, Western Michigan, Lipscomb, Syracuse, and LIU for the third-most wins by a Division I program in 2022. Only Washington (11) and Wake Forest (10) have more wins.

• The Big Red enters Tuesday's match on a six-game win streak, tied for the third-longest active streak with fellow Ivy League foe Penn. Vermont (8) and Washington (7) have won more consecutive matches.

Starting Strong

• Speaking of the 2012 squad, Cornell is off to its best 10-game start to a season since 2012 when the Big Red opened the year with 12 consecutive wins. Cornell posted a 15-1 regular-season record before falling to Syracuse in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

• The nine wins over the Big Red's first 10 games is just the third time in program history that Cornell has logged nine wins in its first 10 matches (1975 and 2012). Back in 1975, the squad also had an 9-1 record in its first 10 games before concluding the season with a 12-4 record.

Having an Eye for the Goal

• The Big Red has scored 24 goals so far this year, marking the program's eighth overall time since 1946 and the third time over the previous 46 years that Cornell has logged at least 24 goals over its first 10 matches. It is the second consecutive year that Cornell has 24-plus goals in the first 10 games.

• Over Cornell's first 10 matches in 2022, the Big Red has yet to be shut out. It marks just the sixth overall time since 1946, and the second consecutive year, that a Big Red squad has scored at least once over its first 10 matches (1971, 1976, 2011, 2012, 2021, 2022).

• Cornell has scored a goal in each of its last 15 matches (last five in 2021, first 10 in 2022) and in 43 of its last 45, dating back to 2019.

• During John Smith's tenure at Cornell, which began in 2016, the Big Red has scored in 76 of the 94 matches played (80.9 percent). The percentage ranks as the fourth-highest by a Cornell head coach and the highest since Dan Wood, the coach in which Smith's position is currently endowed for, from 1971-75.

Goncalves' Scoring Touch

• Junior forward Matthew Goncalves has scored in each of his last three matches, including scoring  Cornell's game-winning goal in both of the Big Red's matches last week.

• Goncalves is the first Cornell player to score game-winning goals in consecutive games since Griffin Garrard potted game-winning goals against Dartmouth (Nov. 9, 2019) and Columbia (Nov. 16, 2019).

• Having scored in each of his last three matches, with a goal Tuesday, Goncalves could become the first Cornell player to score in four straight appearances since Tyler Bagley scored six goals in a four-game span last year.

Scouting the Raiders

• Tuesday will be Colgate's third match against a ranked opponent this season, having defeated then-No. 16 Providence, 3-2, in its season opener, and falling to then-No. 3 Syracuse at home, 2-0, on Sept. 20.

• Colgate has a 5-3-3 overall record and a 2-1-2 mark in Patriot League play. The Raiders fell to American last Saturday, 3-0.

• Aidan Davock and Max Edelstein each have three goals and seven points, both figures are tied for the Colgate lead. Alejandro Coury, Timmy Donovan, and Antonio Ducrot have five points apiece.

• Andrew Cooke has started eight of his team-leading nine appearances this season. He has a 3-2-3 record with a 1.29 goals-against average and a .667 save percentage. Oliver Townend has started all three of his matches, posting a 2-1-0 record with a 1.20 goals-against average and .750 save percentage.

Series vs. Colgate

• Tuesday's match will be the 74th all-time meeting between the two Central New York-based schools. Cornell has the advantage in the series, posting a 48-20-5 record against the Raiders.

• Cornell has won each of the last seven matches in the series and is on a 12-game unbeaten streak (11-0-1) against Colgate. The Big Red's seven-game win streak is the program's longest over the Raiders. Over the last 12 matches, Cornell has outscored Colgate by 16 goals, 23-7, posting eight clean sheets during the span — including each of the last three contests.

Looking Ahead

• Cornell returns to Berman Field for the first time since Oct. 1 when the Big Red hosts Penn for a 4 p.m. match. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+.
