Ted McGeen, a transfer from fellow ECAC school St. Lawrence, scored the lone goal for Guelph, who played its first of three games in as many nights. The Gryphons will face fellow Ivy League schools Dartmouth and Harvard on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Cornell opened the scoring rather early as a shot from the point by Malinski went through traffic and found the back of the net just 26 seconds into the game.
Stienburg added a goal just before the halfway point of the period. Andreev and Rego scored 1:21 apart to give the Big Red a 4-0 advantage after the first.
Psenicka scored the first of his two second-period goals on the power play 5:55 into the frame. Donaldson netted Cornell's sixth unanswered goal at the 10:43 mark, which was challenged by Guelph for being offside, but stood following the review.
McGeen snapped the Big Red's string of six straight goals with his power-play marker. Psenicka responded with his second tally of the period 1:39 later.
Wallace added an insurance marker past the halfway point of the third period, nearly going coast-to-coast for the goal.
Former Cornell goaltender
Nate McDonald started the night for the Gryphons, but was relieved after allowing four goals on 15 shots faced in the opening 14:53. Colton Incze played the remainder of the game for Guelph, making 16 saves.
McDonald was the last player in the handshake line for Guelph following the game, exchanging hugs and laughs with numerous Big Red players. At the conclusion of the handshakes, the entire Cornell roster posed with McDonald for a photo before saluting the fans still remaining in Section B before returning to Guelph's locker room.
