Men's Swim and Dive Takes Down Dartmouth in Ivy Opener

HANOVER, N.H. – The Cornell men's swim and dive team took down Dartmouth, 190.5-109.5, to open the 2022-23 Ivy slate on Friday, November 11. In the same meet, Cornell fell to Harvard, 210.5-89.5. The Big Red recorded at least one top-three finisher in 11 different events.

The Big Red opened the day with a second place finish overall in the 200 yard Medley Relay. Sophomore Will Taner pulled the anchor with a team-best 20.41 second time. The full group notched a time of 1:30.75. Cornell's Chris Kostelni touched the wall at third in the 1000 yard Freestyle and 500 yard Freestyle.

Senior Paige daCosta grabbed third in the Men's 100 yard Backstroke, finishing with a time of 50.13 seconds. Jacob Bass also finished at third in the 100 yard Breaststroke with a time of 56.47. Bass grabbed second in the 200 yard Breaststroke, finishing just over a second behing Harvard.

In the 200 yard Butterfly, Cornell finished 1-2 thanks to performances by Joseph Gurski, who touched the wall at 1:50.95, and Jacques Grove, who finished at 1:53.67. This marked the only top of the podium finish by the Red on the day.

Jeremy Marcin placed second in the 50 yard Freestyle with a time of 20.81. Just .2 seconds separated Marcin and the Harvard finisher who snagged first.

Gurski and Marcin finished 2-3 in the 100 yard Butterfly, with only a .02 separation between the two.

Sebastian Wolff was the final single podium finisher on the day, earning second in the 200 yard IM, only .03 seconds behind Dartmouth.

The Big Red rounded out the day with a second place finish by Jeremy Marcin, Will Taner, Pearce Bailey, and Daniel Simoes in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay

The Big Red men's swimming and diving team next host Princeton and Penn for two pool days. Diving will be hosted on Friday, November 18, followed by a swim meet on Saturday, November 19.
