VESTAL, N.Y. -- Cornell men's swim and dive came home with at 128-115 win over Binghamton to open the 2022-23 season at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center in Vestal, N.Y. The Big Red earned a 1-2-3 finish in two events in the contest.
The first Big Red sweep came in the 200 Yard IM when sophomore
Sebastian Wolff touched the wall at 1:53.10, followed closely by seniors
Jack Valiquette at 1:54.55 and
Jacob Bass at 1:55.34. The second 1-2-3 finish came in the 100 yard Backstroke. Junior
Logan Holt secured first place with a time of 51.62, followed by senior
Paige daCosta (51.78) and rookie
Pietro Ubertalli (52.22).
The Big Red saw first place finishes in three other events. The 400 yard Medley Relay team, comprised of daCosta, Wolff, and sophomores Joeseph Gurski and
Dominic Edwards opened the day with the first men's podium finish with a time of 3:19.81.
The two other first place finishes come from Ubertalli in the 400 yard IM (4:02.04) and junior divers
Matthew Warren and Gabe Hartman, who placed first and second in the 3m dive with final scores of 308.40 and 276.60, respectively. Warren's 308.40 is good for sixth all-time in the Cornell record books.
On the Horizon
Cornell returns to the waters tomorrow evening, Saturday, November 5, when the Big Red take on St. Bonaventure to close out opening weekend.
