Swim and Dive Sets Four School Records at Day Three of the Zippy Invitational

AKRON, Ohio -- Cornell men's and women's swim and dive broke four more school records by the end of the third day at the Zippy Invite. The Big Red placed in the top three in 17 events across 33 events and heats.

On the women's side, Anna Gruvberger got the ball rolling on the Big Red success on the day with a third place finish in the B-Final in the 100 yard Butterfly. Melissa Parker was the next podium finisher on the women's side. Parker finished at the top in the A-Final 200 yard Freestyle with a time of 1:47.13, beating the previous Big Red record by nearly a full second. Kate Li finished first in the B-Final of the same event with a time of 1:50.58, a time also good for top-10 in Cornell history. In the 100 yard Backstroke, Cornell placed 2-3 in the B-Final, with Aviva Munoz and Marie Williams touching the wall at 55.79 and 56.20 seconds, respectively. Olivia Sutter placed third in the C-Final of the same event. To round out the women's side, Priscilla Wongso, Emilie Boisrenoult, Joelle Ohr, and Parker set the school record in the 200 yard Freestyle, touching the wall at 1:31.00, almost a full second ahead of the previous record set in 2014 at the Ivy's. Boisrenoult broke one more record, this time in the 100 yard Butterfly. Placing fourth overall in the A-Final, touched the wall in a record 53.87 seconds. Audrey Holden, who placed fourth in the 100 yard Breaststroke, was the last Big Red athlete to rewrite the record books on the day, swimming for a time of 1:02.11. The women sit at fifth out of seven with 791 points.

For the men, Jeremy Marcin got the Big Red rolling with a third place finish in the B-Final of the 100 yard Butterfly at 47.95 seconds. Reid Brophy finished atop his heat in the B-Final of the 400 yard IM. Lance Borgers gabbed third in the C-Final of the same race. Daniel Simoes placed third in the A-Final of the 200 yard Freestyle, and Mark Rydberg finished second in the C-Final of the same event. Sebastian Wolff lead the B-Finals heat in the 100 yard Breaststroke with a time of 54.06 seconds. Andrew Lin and Pietro Ubertalli finished 2-3 in the B-Final of the 100 yard Back stroke, with Jacques Grove grabbing second in the C-Final heat. The team of Jeremy Marcin, Will Taner, Simoes and Wolff combined to finish third in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay with a time on 1:20.46. The performances helped hold the second place mark for the Big Red out of five teams, tallying a point total of 1358.5.
