ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's tennis hits the road for the first time in dual competition on Friday, when it takes on Oklahoma State at noon Central at Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla. The match will mark the first-ever meeting between the programs.
Cornell (6-0) has breezed through the opening portion of its schedule with six straight victories, including 7-0 sweeps of Fordham, St. Bonaventure, Buffalo and Fairleigh Dickinson. The most competitive matches to date came against Drake — a 6-1 win on Jan. 22, powered by a singles sweep; and Penn State — a 4-3 victory on Jan. 30 that saw senior captain
Evan Bynoe clinch with a straight-set win at #4 singles.
The Big Red continues to garner votes in Intercollegiate Tennis Association coaches poll, remaining just outside the top 25. On the strength of his title at the ITA Northeast Region Championships, senior
Alafia Ayeni continues to carrying a national ranking in singles – now #27.
Oklahoma State (2-4) enters Friday's match on the heels of four straight losses, most recently a 4-2 setback against then-#18 Pepperdine last Saturday. One of the Cowboys' points came from a #3 singles victory by Seb Nothhaft over a nationally-ranked opponent from the Waves, propelling Nothhaft into the national rankings this week at #88. Francisco Pini has a 5-0 record in singles from the lower positions in the order.
The match will be broadcast through the host school's website. Live stats will also be available.
