Women's Tennis Set To Host ECAC Indoors This Weekend

2/10/2022 12:40:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. – The women's tennis team will get a first-hand look at all its Ivy League competition this weekend, when it hosts the ECAC Indoor Championships at Reis Tennis Center.

Cornell (0-2) is coming off a 5-2 loss on Sunday at James Madison. Lan Mi (#1) and Valerie Ho (#4) cruised to straight-set singles victories, but the Dukes pulled away by winning the final two matches. The Big Red opened its dual season with a 6-1 loss to Syracuse on Jan. 30, highlighted by a #6 singles win from Jenny Wong.

This year's ECAC Indoor Championships are exclusively the eight Ivy League programs. The Big Red has been seeded eighth, meaning it will open up at 8 a.m. Friday against top-seeded Princeton. The Tigers are 0-6 to start their dual season with the caveat that they have faced particularly stiff competition that includes four teams ranked in the top 20 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The team is anchored by junior Daria Frayman, who is ranked third nationally in singles and eighth in doubles alongside Grace Joyce.

From the match against Princeton, Cornell will move on to play either fourth-seeded Yale or fifth-seeded Dartmouth on Saturday, either at 2 p.m. after a win or 8 a.m. after a loss. The quarterfinals on the other side of the bracket pit second-seeded Harvard against seventh-seeded Dartmouth and third-seeded Penn and sixth-seeded Brown. Sunday's possible match times are 8 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. or 5 p.m.
