PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Cornell fencing team dropped contests to three ranked opponents on the opening day of the Ivy League Round Robins, falling to No. 5 Harvard, No. 10 Yale and No. 3 Columbia to begin the two-day event. The losses were the first of the season for the Big Red, which was a perfect 32-0 entering the weekend with wins over 11 ranked opponents.
The Big Red saber squad won 11 bouts to lead the way, as
Stella Berman (4-3),
Gillian Harrill (4-5) and
Esther Bentolila (3-6) are all on the edge of All-Ivy League honors and
Stella Berman (. With the epee, both
Emma Ni (3-5) and
Megan Eno (2-5) are also in the hunt for all-conference honors entering day two.
Cornell will meet Brown (0-4), Penn (2-1) and Princeton (3-0) on day two as the Big Red will attempt to regroup. Two wins would match the Big Red's best-ever showing, while a sweep would give Cornell its best showing ever at the championship.
