PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Cornell fencing team closed the Ivy League Round Robins with a 1-2 mark on Sunday afternoon to take sixth overall at the conference championship meet. The Big Red opened the day with a 21-6 victory over Brown before falling to No. 10 Penn 155-12 and falling to No. 1 Princeton 18-9 to close the meet.
After an 0-3 day on Saturday, Cornell answered the bell on Sunday by taking care of the Bears, with saber (7-2) and foil (8-1) leading the way.
The saber trio of
Gillian Harrill (8-7),
Esther Bentolila (8-8) and
Stella Berman (7-7) were each in contention for All-Ivy accolades, as were foil fencer
Renata Chusid (8-7) and epeeists
Gabrielle Hill (7-9) and
Megan Eno (7-9). All finished among the top 10 in their weapons.
Cornell closes its dual meet season with a 33-5 record, starting the campaign with a magical 32-0 run with 11 wins over ranked opponents. Big Red fencers will now compete at NCAA Regionals while attempting to qualify for the national championship meet.
