BOSTON — Nine three-game sweeps highlighted the Cornell women's squash team's 9-0 victory over Bowdoin in the quarterfinals of the Kurtz Cup — the 'B' flight of the College Squash Association National Collegiate Women's Team Championships — on Friday at Murr Center.
Cornell (5-8), ranked ninth in the nation and first among the eight teams in its bracket, had little trouble in making its first step toward securing the program's fourth Kurtz Cup title. It was the first meeting between Cornell and Bowdoin (11-8) since 2009, with the Big Red's victory improving it to 6-4 all-time against the Polar Bears.
With the win, Cornell advances to a semifinal match against #12 Tufts at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Big Red is 5-1 all-time against the Jumbos, but — like with Bowdoin — the programs have not clashed since 2009.
