BOSTON — Just as it had through the first two rounds of its division of the College Squash Association's National Collegiate Women's Team Championships, the Cornell women's squash team made quick work of its opponent on Sunday to secure a 8-1 victory over Dartmouth and claim the program's fourth Kurtz Cup title.
Competing as the top seed of the field vying for the Kurtz Cup — which is the 'B' division of the national championships for teams tabbed ninth- through 16th in the CSA's rankings — the Big Red rolled to three victories by a cumulative score of 25-2 over the weekend.
Sunday's final against the Big Green was not only a rematch of an Ivy League contest from five weeks ago, it was also a rematch of the Kurtz Cup championship match in 2019. Both of those matches were competitive leading up to 6-3 Cornell victories — though Sunday's match proved to be quite a bit less dramatic.
Senior
Sivasangari Subramaniam improved to 15-0 on the season with a tidy three-game win at #1, then senior
Lily Zelov wrapped up a sweep of her own from the #5 position. The opening rotation would continue for a while longer, though, but junior
Mia Krishnamurthy delivered a huge win in extra points of a fifth game at #9. Sophomore
Wen Li Lai also wrapped up a quick win at #2 around the same time, and junior
Alexis Shatzman's three-game sweep at #6 clinched the match before Dartmouth ever got on the board.
While team play is concluded for the season, the Big Red will send to-be-announced competitors to compete in the 2022 National Collegiate Individual Championships, which are scheduled for March 4-6 in Philadelphia.
