ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's tennis team returns to Reis Tennis Center for a pair of matches on Friday, when it plays host to Buffalo at 3 p.m. and Fairleigh Dickinson at 6 p.m.
Cornell has won all four of its dual matches to date, most recently taking a doubleheader last Sunday against Penn State and St. Bonaventure. Against the Nittany Lions, the Big Red got the clinching point of a 4-3 decision from senior captain
Evan Bynoe's straight-set victory at the #4 singles position.
The other points came comfortably from the top three singles positions, then the Big Red made a handful of lineup changes for the 7-0 sweep of St. Bonaventure in the evening.
The Big Red renews an all-time series against the Bulls that sees Cornell holding a 27-1 advantage after a 7-0 sweep on March 22, 2018. The one Buffalo victory between the squads came in 2016.
The Bulls are 0-3 to start the dual season. Including 7-0 losses against two other Ivy League teams – Penn (on Jan. 14) and Yale (last Friday). Buffalo's lone singles victories to date came from Simon Wibler at the #1 position, and the doubles team of Finn MacNamara and Greg Hastings is 2-1 from the #3 spot.
Cornell is 4-0 all-time against Fairleigh Dickinson, entering the programs' first meeting since a 5-2 decision for the Big Red on Feb. 20, 2010. Friday's match will serve as the defending Northeast Conference champions' first dual match since it lost an first-round NCAA match against Virginia on May 8, 2021.
