ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell polo teams will attempt to punch their tickets to nationals when they head south to the USPA Northeast Regionals on Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13 at the Virginia Polo Center in Charlottesville, Va..
The women will play Kentucky Saturday at noon before playing Sunday in either the consolation game at 10 a.m. or the finals at noon. The men also open against Kentucky on Saturday with a 2 p.m. start, then face the host Cavaliers on Sunday at 2 p.m. to complete that three-team round-robin.
The men's team brings a 13-2 record and a five-match win streak into the tournament and has topped Kentucky twice already this season, 13-11 in November at the Bill Field Invitational and, more recently, 20-13 on Feb. 26 at Oxley. Both of the Big Red's losses have come against the Cavaliers, a 21-1 loss at the UVa Fall Tournament in October and again 30-11 in November in the Bill Field final. The Big Red is 5-0 since that last defeat, outscoring its opponents 106-53.
On the women's side, the Big Red and the Wildcats will meet for the second time, with Kentucky winning 26-7 when the squads met on Feb. 25 at Oxley in the first game under interim head coach Elka Sterling.
