ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell senior men's basketball player Sarju Patel has been named to the 2022 Academic All-Ivy League team. He is the 19th Academic All-Ivy selection in men's basketball history.

A team captain in his first season of eligibility after transferring to Cornell from VMI, he is averaging 9.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 46 percent from the floor in 25 starts. Patel has scored in double figures in a team-high 14 contests, including eight of his last 12. 

He scored 10 points, including a key 3-pointer with 13 seconds left, to go along with six rebounds in the win at Lafayette and netted 15 points with five rebounds at Penn State. The senior hit on 6-of-9 shots en route to 14 points and six rebounds in the win over Harvard and made 5-of-6 field goals while scoring 13 points with six rebounds, one block, and one steal in the win over Princeton.

Off the court, Patel sports a 3.32 grade point average in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations. 

Patel and the Big Red will open competition at the Ivy League Tournament on Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m. when they face top-seeded Princeton at Harvard's Lavietes Pavilion. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
