Big Red Drops Friday Doubleheader vs. Mount St. Mary's, Morgan State

EMMITSBURG, Md. -- The Cornell softball team dropped a pair of Friday afternoon contests on day one of The Mount Tournament, falling to the host school on a walk-off homer, 3-2, before suffering an 8-0 defeat at the hands of Morgan State in the nightcap. The Big Red fell to 1-6, but will have chances to avenge both games on Sunday when it meets Mount St. Mary's at noon and Morgan State at 2 p.m., though the games have moved sites and will be played at Morgan State.

GAME ONE
Twice Cornell softball took a lead, and both times Mount St. Mary's answered with a solo home run to tie the game. The Mounties didn't wait for the Big Red to take a third lead.

Abigayle Perry's walk-off homer on the second pitch of the seventh inning lifted Mount St. Mary's to a 3-2 victory over the Big Red on Friday afternoon at Meadows Field. Cornell fell to 1-5, while Mount St. Mary's improved to 6-9.

Gabrielle Maday was the hard-luck loser despite scattering eight hits and striking out four. Her foil in the circle, Amanda Berkley, allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out six to even her record at 3-3 this season.

Emily McKinney was 1-of-2 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth to drive in a run and scored on a wild pitch in the second, both times giving Cornell a lead.

Kassidy Johnson was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, while Bridgette Gilliano was also 2-for-3 with a homer to lead the home team.

GAME TWO
Morgan State scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, then broke it open with crooked numbers in the fifth and sixth.

Anya Hunte was 3-for-3 with two RBI at the plate and threw a complete game shutout, striking out eight and scattering five hits. Three Bears hit homers - Aliya Ewell, Tayven Rousseau and Asia Thomas.

The Big Red could muster just five singles, with Lilly Travieso going 1-for-2 with a walk to lead the Big Red. Mia Burd went the distance in the circle, allowing five earned runs over six innings.
