Men's Basketball Shoots Past Columbia, Ivy Tournament Up Next

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Cornell ran out to an early double figure lead and cruised to a 78-64 victory over Columbia on Saturday afternoon at Levien Gymnasium. The Big Red connected on 14 3-pointers to close its regular season with a 15-10 record (7-7 Ivy), sweeping the season series from the Lions (4-22, 1-13).

Four players scored in double figures, led by Greg Dolan, Sarju Patel and Dean Noll with 12 apiece. Dolan added eight rebounds and four assists, Patel connected on three 3-pointers and Noll chipped in five rebounds and four of the team's 19 assists. Keller Boothby had 11 points and four steals, Kobe Dickson ripped down seven rebounds and Chris Manon stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Big Red shot 45 percent from the floor and outrebounded the home team 42-34. It had a 16-0 edge in fastbreak points.

Geronimo Rubio de La Rosa led the Lions with 14 points, while Zavian McLean and Patrick Harding each had 12, with Harding adding 17 rebounds and five assists. Columbia shot 56 percent from the floor after halftime, but couldn't do much to cut into the Big Red lead.

The Big Red also found out its opponent at the Ivy League Tournament, as Princceton clinched the No. 1 seed and the conference title with a 93-70 win at rival Penn. The Tigers will bring a 22-5 record into Saturday's 11 a.m. matchup on ESPNU, with the winner getting the right to play either No. 2 seed Yale or No. 3 seed Penn on Sunday, March 13 at noon on ESPN2 for the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
 

First Half

• The Big Red led 39-21 at halftime, hitting 7-of-14 3-pointers and getting into its offense quickly thanks to a dominant 27-18 edge on the glass. 
• Cornell held Columbia to 7-of-32 shooting (22 percent) and 2-of-17 from 3-point range (2-of-17).
• Dolan was especially efficient,hitting all four shots on his way to 10 points, five rebounds and three assists in just seven minutes of action.
• Guy Ragland added six points and four boards.
• Dolan hit Nazir Williams for a layup, then drove the lane himself for a bucket to make it 11-2 early on.
• A 13-0 run midway through the first half extended its lead to 18 (34-16) with a Marcus Filien dunk in transition and a 3-pointer by the junior on a feed from Ragland the highlights.
 

Second Half

• The Lions shot 56 percent in the second half and made 18 field goals, but only cut four points off Cornell's halftime lead.
• Zavian McLean scored 12 and Geronimo RubioDe La Rosa had 10 in the second half for the Lions, combining for 9-of-14 shooting and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
• Cornell burst out of the break and extended its lead to 21 just 90 seconds into the half on a Dean Noll trey.
• The Lions got within 14, but the Big Red never let the home team back in the game. 
• A Nazir Williams steal in the backcourt and tough three-point play gave the Big Red a 22-point lead, with Chris Manon's dunk a possession later making it 73-51 with 5:20 remaining.
• Columbia never got within the final margin of 14 over the final 23:44.
