ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's tennis team kicked off a four-game home stand with a 7-0 sweep of Binghamton on Wednesday evening at the Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 7-9 on the season with the Bearcats ending their season 0-22.
The Big Red won five of its six singles matches in straight sets, including a double bagel by
Khary Pryce at No. 6 singles and nearly a second with
Lan Mi earning a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 1. The singles wins came on the heels of a tight doubles point. Both teams claimed 6-1 victories, Binghamton and No. 1 and Cornell at No. 3, but the Big Red earned it at No, 2 when
Ashley Huang and
Valerie Ho narrowly topped Natalia Aruj abd Kelly Chen, 6-4. That triumph clinched the point for the Big Red and set up the sweep.
Alexandra Savu had a resilient win at No. 4 singles to complete the sweep, rallying after dropping the first set 7-5 to knock off Abby Ackroyd 6-1 and 10-8 to finish up.
Cornell will return to action on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m. when it visits Yale before heading to Providence to play Brown on Sunday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
