ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's tennis team snapped a mini-skid, getting back on track with a 7-0 sweep of St. John's on Sunday afternoon at the Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red improved to 12-5 on the season, including 11-2 at home, while snapping a two-game losing streak. The Red Storm slipped to 12-4 on the year
Cornell won four singles matches in straight sets, with
Alafia Ayeni handing Axel Villa Antuna just his second loss of the season at No 1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win. He also teamed with
Vladislav Melnic fora 6-1 victory at No, 1 doubles against Vila Antuna and Ignacio Garcia. The Red Storm doubles tandem entered the day 8-2.
Radu Papoe and
Pietro Rimondini combined to lose just six games in easy wins at No. 3 and No, 4 singles and teamed up for a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles to earn the point entering into singles play.
Cornell begins Ivy play and looks to continue its home success when it hosts Dartmouth (Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m.) an Harvard (Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m.) at Reis Tennis Center.
