Brown Overcomes Early Deficit, Three Homers to Top Baseball In Finale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown overcame a four-run deficit and three Cornell home runs to rally for a 10-7 win on Senior Day to close out the 2022 season on Sunday afternoon at Murray Stadium. The Big Red ended its season 11-25 (5-16 Ivy) while the Bears finished 13-23 (8-13 Ivy).

Nathan Waugh, Wils Guy and Ryan Porter each homered, but the Big Red bats fell silent over the final five innings, scoring just one run on a single hit. Paxton Meyers earned the win with 2.2 innings of one-hit ball after Zach Fogell struck out nine in 5.0 innings in the start.

Porter was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, with Max Jensen tripling and scoring. Both Guy and Porter also stole bases in the loss.

Reece Rappoli's two-run double down the right field line put Brown in front for the first time in the sixth, then a solo homer in the seventh by Charles Crawford and a Big Red balk added some insurance runs in the seventh. The Big Red plated a single run in the eighth after Sam Kaplan's single scored Jensen, who tripled. Brown got the run right back in the home-half of the inning and Cornell went down in order in the ninth after a leadoff walk.

The Big Red used the long ball to take the early lead, as Waugh's two-run shot in the first put Cornell out front, Guy's shot to right in the second made it 3-0 and Porter's solo shot in the fourth gave the visitors a 6-2 edge. After scoring runs in each of the first four frames, Cornell wouldn't dent the scoreboard again until the eighth.
