Albany, N.Y. -- The Cornell Big Red field hockey team (2-1, 0-0 Ivy) fell to UAlbany (3-2, 0-0 America East) on Sunday afternoon in a tightly contested 2-1 battle. Senior defender
Caroline Ramsey scored the lone goal for the Big Red off of a penalty corner served in by senior forward
Natalie Stone and was assisted by senior forward
Claire Jones.
UAlbany controlled the first quarter, getting off eight shots compared to Cornell's zero. The Great Danes also notched three corners in the first period.
Senior goalkeeper
Aerin Park maintained the clean sheet for nearly the next two quarters until UAlbany scored with just over two minutes remaining in the second quarter.
Cornell found its answer with five minutes remaining in the contest.
Natalie Stone took a penalty corner for Cornell, slotting the ball to
Claire Jones, who set the ball up for
Caroline Ramsey to bury in the back of the net. Her goal tied the match at one, but with just over one minute remaining, the Great Danes were awarded a penalty stroke, which they capitalized on to win the game, 2-1.
UAlbany's two loses are to #22 Ohio State and #11 Penn State. The Big Red will face off against Penn State next weekend.
