#6 Penn State Beats Out Field Hockey

ANN ARBOR, MICH -- Cornell field hockey (2-2, 0-0 Ivy) fell to #6 Penn State (6-1, 1-0 Big Ten) 3-0 on Saturday in Ann Arbor. Senior goalkeeper Aerin Park tallied three saves in the contest.

Penn State opened the scoring with a pass into the circle the set up a reverse chip in front of the net at 4:51 in the first quarter. Park earned a huge save at 10:18 in the first quarter. A Penn State attack was foiled by quick reaction from Park to keep the scoreline 1-0.

Quarter two had another quick shot opportunity for Penn State just under three minutes in that helped it capture a 2-0 lead. PSU maintained the lead through halftime.

The Nittany Lions earned an early penalty corner to open the second half, but a defensive block by Bridget Mahoney kept Penn State from tallying a goal. Mahoney blocked second APC just five minutes later. PSU found its third goal of the afternoon off its sixth penalty corner of the half. A shot that was first saved by Park turned into a rebound opportunity that the Lions capitalized on to go up 3-0. Caroline Ramsey had a chance for the Big Red with three minutes remaining in the third quarter when Cornell was awarded a penalty corner. She ripped a shot to the top right of the net, but Penn State's goalkeeper, Brie Barraco, made the save to keep the clean sheet.

Cornell controlled the possession for most of the fourth quarter, but the offensive efforts yielded just one shot, leaving the Big Red scoreless.

Junior goalkeeper Lexie Hausheer saw her first collegiate minutes in the match, as she played out the fourth quarter for Cornell.
