Last Time Out

Brandon Morales broke a 1-1 tie in the 85th minute with his second goal of the match, leading Cornell to a 2-1 victory over Niagara at Niagara Field on Saturday night.

• Morales recorded his first collegiate brace as Emeka Eneli assisted on both of Morales' goals in the win for Cornell.

Ryan Friedberg recorded a pair of saves while earning his fourth victory of the season.

About the Big Red

Alioune Ka has a team-leading five points (two goals, one assist). Westin Carnevale (two goals), Brandon Morales (two goals), and Emeka Eneli (four assists) have four points apiece.

Ryan Friedberg has been the Big Red's go-to goalkeeper, as he has played all 450 minutes the team has played this season. He is 4-1-0 with a 0.80 goals-against average and a .714 save percentage.

Assisting the Team

Emeka Eneli has assisted four of Cornell's last five goals scored over the Big Red's last three games. Eneli assisted on both of Cornell's goals against Saint Joseph's on Sept. 10, before doing the same a week later against Niagara on Saturday.

• He is Cornell's first player to register multiple games with two-plus assists since 2011, when Jimmy Lannon had two multi-assist games.

Friedberg's Strong Start

• Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Friedberg has shined for the Big Red between the pipes so far this season. He is currently 4-1-0 with a 0.80 goals-against average and .714 save percentage.

• His four victories makes him the third Cornell freshman goalkeeper with four-plus victories in a season. The record is seven initially set by Stephen Bott in 1983 before being matched by Quinn O'Sullivan in 1992.

• Friedberg's 0.80 goals-against average is the best by any Ivy League goalkeeper, edging Penn's Nick Christoffersen (0.84), while his .714 save percentage is third, trailing Dartmouth's Costi Christodoulou (.769) and Yale's Elian Haddock (.727).

What's at Stake

• A victory on Tuesday would be the Big Red's best six-game start to a season since 2013 when Cornell opened its first six matches with a 5-0-1 record. That season, Cornell opened the year on an eight-game unbeaten streak (6-0-2) before concluding the year with an 8-5-4 mark.

• With a draw, Cornell would have a 4-1-1 record through its first six games for a second consecutive season. Last year's squad was 4-1-1 after its first six games before going 11-3-2.

Berman Field Advantage

• Cornell had its 15-game unbeaten streak at Berman Field snapped in last Tuesday's loss to Vermont. It was the Big Red's first setback at home since Nov. 3, 2018 against Dartmouth by an identical 2-1 score.

• Since 2019, Cornell has a 12-1-3 record (.844) on its home turf. The Big Red's .844 win percentage ranks as the 12th-best of any Division I school with at least 15 home games during that stretch.

• Cornell is just one of two Division I programs, with at least 15 games played, with one home loss over the last three-plus seasons. Yale is the other program to lose just one home game since 2019, as the Bulldogs have a 13-1-2 record.

Scouting the Golden Griffins

• Canisius is playing Cornell as a final tune-up for Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, which begins next Wednesday against its Western New York rival, Niagara.

• The Golden Griffins enter Tuesday's contest on a four-game unbeaten streak (1-0-3). It is the team's longest string of games without a loss since a seven-game streak in 2017 (4-0-3).

• Reilly Boyer and Julius Schoner have scored the lone goals for Canisius this season. William Howard has been the bright spot of the Griffs' defense, posting a 1.00 goals-against average and an .846 save percentage in all of the Golden Griffins' six matches this season.

Series vs. Canisius

• Tuesday's match marks the fifth all-time meeting between Canisius and Cornell, all of which have occurred since the 2009 season. Cornell leads the series, 2-1-1.

• Canisius is playing at Berman Field for the first time since Sept. 16, 2017, when the Golden Griffins beat the Big Red, 2-1.

• Cornell won the last meeting between the two Empire State teams, 2-0, in 2019 at Canisius. Harry Fuller scored both of the Big Red's goals, one of which came on a penalty kick in the first half. Ryan Shellow earned the clean sheet, making four saves.

Looking Ahead

• Cornell will play its final non-conference match before Ivy League play on Saturday when the Big Red travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to play Marist. First touch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN3.
