ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 6-ranked Cornell women's squash team returns to action this weekend when it takes on a pair of Ivy League opponents currently ranked in the top 10 in the CSA Squash rankings.
Cornell (4-0) welcomes No. 9 Penn to the Belkin Squash Courts on Friday for a 2 p.m. start before heading to No. 4 Princeton to face the Tigers at Jadwin Gymnasium on Sunday. Both matches will be broadcast on Stretch Internet.
The Big Red (4-0) will be seeking to continue its strong start to the season, as it has yet to drop a match this season.
Wen Li Lai,
Aishwarya Khubchandani, and
Ananya Dabke are a perfect 4-0 at the top three positions in Cornell's ladder.
McKenna Stoltz and
Alysa Ali are also 4-0 on the year, but have split their times at different spots in the lineup.
Scouting Penn
Penn enters the match with a 4-1 overall record. The lone blemish in the Quakers record came on Nov. 13 when it fell to Drexel, 7-2.
This will mark the fourth consecutive match that Penn is playing a ranked opponent, as after its loss to then-No. 3 Drexel, the Quakers defeated No. 11 Stanford on Nov. 19, 5-4, and No. 12 Tufts on Nov. 20, 9-0.
Grace Lavin is the lone Penn player with a perfect 4-0 record on the year, having played at the No. 5, No. 8, and No. 9 positions.
Last year, the Big Red fell to the Quakers, 6-3.
Sivasangari Subramaniam (No. 1) and
Alexis Shatzman (No. 6) posted straight-set victories, while
Wen Li Lai posted a five-set victory at the No. 2 position over Jamila Tamer.
Cornell is looking snap its 19-match losing streak in regular season play to the Quakers. The last time the Big Red defeated Penn was on Nov. 17, 2001, when it won 7-2.
Scouting Princeton
Princeton enters this weekend with a 1-0 record, having defeated Stanford back on Nov. 18, 8-1, at the Squash on Fire event in Washington, D.C.
Five Tigers players registered straight-set victories, beginning with the No. 5 position and moving down the ladder.
The Tigers return to action for the first time in nearly two months on Friday when it plays Columbia in New York.
Last year, Cornell fell to Princeton, 7-2.
Sivasangari Subramaniam and
Wen Li Lai each posted straight-set victories for Cornell in the setback.
With a victory over Princeton on Sunday, it would mark the first time in program history that the Big Red has defeated the Tigers.
Looking Ahead
After this weekend, the Cornell women's squash team will have a trio of matches next week when it plays Stanford on Jan. 19 in Norwalk, Conn., before playing Trinity and Yale on Jan. 21 and 22, respectively.
