ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 6-ranked Cornell women's squash team returns to action on Friday at 3:30 p.m. when it faces No. 27-ranked Wesleyan in Middletown, Conn.
The match against the Cardinals will be the first of three matches in as many days, as the Big Red will also play top-ranked Trinity on Saturday at 1 p.m., and No. 5-ranked Yale on Sunday at noon.
Cornell (5-1, 2-1 Ivy) is coming off a split of its pair of Ivy League matches last weekend against No. 9 Penn and No. 4 Princeton.
Sivasangari Subramaniam and
Wen Li Lai each posted a pair of four-set victories last weekend.
Subramaniam has won her last 20 matches and holds a career record of 41-2.
Lai is 6-0 on the year, which includes a 4-0 mark at the No. 1 position.
Scouting Wesleyan
Wesleyan is coming off a sweep of its round robin against Haverford, Mount Holyoke, and Denison. The Cardinals dropped just two points on the weekend, both of which came against Denison.
The Cardinals are 5-5 on the year, and have won its last five matches. Prior to the round robin last weekend, Wesleyan defeated Connecticut College after winning the last match of the Vassar Team Challenge against Vassar.
Jaclyn Dichter (7-0) and and Sydney Smith (6-0) are the lone players that are undefeated for Wesleyan this season. Marangela James and Julissa Mota both have 6-1 records.
Cornell is facing Wesleyan for the first time since a neutral site contest in Williamstown, Mass., on Jan. 16, 1999. The Big Red posted a 9-0 victory over the Cardinals.
Scouting Trinity
Trinity is currently the top-ranked team in the College Squash Association rankings. The Bantams are 7-0 on the year and posted six straight 9-0 victories before dropping its first two points of the season to Harvard, 7-2, this past Sunday.
The victory for Trinity snapped Harvard's 102-match winning streak, which dated back to January 2015.
Lujan Palacios, Janna Ashmawy, and Fabiola Cabello have participated, and won, all seven events for the Bantams this season.
Cornell is seeking its first victory over Trinity.
Scouting Yale
Yale, who is ranked No. 5 in the College Squash Association rankings, is currently 3-2 on the year and 1-1 in Ancient Eight play.
Cornell and Yale are currently tied with Columbia for third in the Ivy League standings. Princeton and Harvard are ahead with 2-0 marks.
The Bulldogs were swept by No. 2 Harvard last Friday before posting an 8-1 win over No. 10 Dartmouth on Sunday.
Christy Lau, Whitney Taylor, and Mika Bardin each have won four of their five matches so far on the year.
Last year, the Bulldogs posted a 6-3 victory over the Big Red. Subramaniam, Lai, and
Selena Georgieva each had three-set victories for Cornell.
Looking Ahead
Following this week's matches, Cornell will play its next three matches at the friendly confines of the Belkin Squash Courts. The homestand begins on Saturday, Jan. 28, when it hosts Harvard.
