ITHACA N.Y. - #10 Women's Ice Hockey cruise to victory in a 7-2 route of the Union Dutchwomen at Lynah Rink on Friday night.
Freshman forward
Avi Adam completed the first hat-trick of her Cornell career, as she netted two goals in the second period followed by the Big Red insurance marker 48 seconds into the third period.
Cornell had five players register multiple points, in which included Adam (hat trick),
Izzy Daniel (one goal, two assist),
Gillis Frechette (one goal, one assist),
Mckenna Van Gelder (two assists), and
Grace Dwyer (one goal, two assists).
The first 10 minutes of the contests was a defensive battle until Daniel struck the back of the net for the opening goal of the game with eight minutes remaining in the first period. Just over two minutes later Dwyer registered a goal that was assisted by Daniel and Van Gelder to give the Big Red a 2-0 lead.
Cornell followed that period with a four goal explosion. Adam (two),
Alyssa Regalado (one), and Frechette (one) all put the puck in the net to give the Big Red a 6-0 lead heading into the final period.
Just 48 seconds into the third period Adam completed the hat trick with an impressive goal that was assisted from Dwyer. The Dutchwomen would put in two late period goals from Paige Greco and Carmen Merlo.
Next Action
The #10 Big Red are back in action on Saturday Jan. 7 at 3pm against the RPI Engineers at Lynah Rink. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+.
