ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell women's ice hockey team surged past Syracuse on Tuesday night by a score of 7-0. Cornell moved to 3-0-0 on the season, while the Orange fell to 3-4-0.
Deanna Fraser started between the pipes, registering 12 saves.
Katie Chan and
Avi Adam score two goals apiece in the contest.
Izzy Daniel,
Rory Guilday, and
Kaitlin Jockims also found the back of the net for the Big Red.
Gabbie Rud was responsible for four helpers, which is her career-high in a game.
The first period was tightly contested on the scoreboard, although Cornell held a 14-3 shots on goal advantage. Jockims took advantage of the skater advantage five minutes into the period, putting the Big Red ahead 1-0. Syracuse goaltender Allie Kelley was under siege, but held her ground stopping 11 shots in the first period.
The Big Red found its footing in the second period, netting four goals from Chan (3:39), Daniel (6:00), Adam (19:13), and Guilday (PP - 19:48).
Karel Prefontaine assisted on two of those tallies (Adam, Guilday).
In the final stanza of action Adam and Chan tacked on their second goals of the game, extending the lead to an insurmountable count of 7-0.
In her first start of the season, Fraser was tested 12 times in the net, allowing zero goals and securing the shutout. Kelley registered 34 saves on the night for the Orange.

The Cornell women's ice hockey team will take the road this weekend for action against Mercyhurst. The squads will meet in a back-to-back on Friday (6:00 p.m.) and Saturday (2:00 p.m.) from Mercyhurst Ice Center. Game action will be broadcast on FloSports.
