PRINCETON, N.J. -- Junior Radu Papoe continued his strong showing at the ITA Super Regionals on Saturday afternoon from New Jersey, claiming a straight-sets victory over Princeton's Ellis Short.
The All-Ivy first team pick from a year ago needed to battle in the first set against Short, as both battled to a tiebreaker. But the No. 2 seeded Papoe weathered the storm, picking up a 7-3 win to claim the opener. With the momentum on his side, the junior rolled in the second set, winning 6-2 to move onto Sunday's quarterfinals.
Papoe will face a familiar Ivy League foe in Harvard's Daniel Milavsky on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The No. 7 seeded Milavsky took down his teammate Vlademar Pape in straight sets (7-5, 7-5) on Saturday to advance. Papoe has never faced off against Milavsky in singles but has a doubles win over the Harvard product from the ECAC Indoor Championships in February.
