MANSFIELD, Pa. — The Cornell University sprint football team trimmed a 14-point deficit to seven in the second half against Mansfield on Saturday but couldn't complete the comeback, falling 20-7 to the Mounties at Kyle Van Norman Field.
Big Red senior quarterback Cooper Wise finished with a career-high 61 yards rushing and a touchdown on 13 attempts. Sophomore linebacker Mike Mosier led Cornell's defense with eight tackles, including 1.5 for a loss of yards, and senior linebacker Billy Turner had seven tackles with a team-leading two tackles for a loss.
Mansfield quarterback Cahsid Raymond finished with 110 yards rushing and scored a three-yard touchdown to open the scoring early in the second quarter. He went 11-of-26 through the air for 127 yards and threw a 14-yard touchdown to tailback Terrance Quaker just before halftime.
Wise capped a 10-play drive that spanned nearly six minutes with a 24-yard touchdown rush in the third quarter, but the Mounties quickly regained their 14-point advantage on a 1-yard run from Quaker and kept Cornell scoreless the rest of the way.
