TIRANA, Albania — Cornell 2023 NCAA All-American wrestler Jacob Cardenas will return to East Hill with a bronze medal after completing his run at the U23 World Wrestling Championships in Albania with a victory over Pruthviraj Patil (India) on Tuesday evening.
Cardenas, who wrestled in the 92kg weight class, rallied back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Patil 4-3, recording two second half takedowns, including one to take the lead in the final minute. The Big Red senior took down Satoshi Miura (Japan) 6-0 earlier in the day to advance to the bronze-medal match.
On Monday, Cardenas split matches, outlasting Alan Bagaev (independent) 4-3 and lost 10-1 to Muhammed Gimri of Turkey.
Cardenas earned All-American honors for the first time last season with an eighth place at 197 pounds at the NCAA Tournament. He earned unanimous first-team All-Ivy honors.
