Box Score TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Big Red women's tennis wrapped up the fall schedule at the Rocket Indoor Invitational hosted by Toledo. The Big Red took on foes from the Rockets, Dayton, and Cleveland State in both doubles and singles matches.
Michelle Ryndin and
Emma Baker both went perfect on the weekend in their singles matches.
Matches on Friday began with doubles play, where Cornell faced Cleveland State.
Jenny Wong and
Victoria Zhao dropped the No. 1 match, 6-2, but Ryndin and
Alexandra Savu righted the ship with a 6-2 win. Baker and Martina Maria followed up with a 6-4 win. The group divided singles into two groups, the Blue Singles, representing No. 1 through 3, and the Gold Singles, representing No. 4 through 6. In Blue Singles against CSU, Zhao and Ryndin each took down their opponents 6-3, 6-4.
Jenny Wong fell in the No. 3 match, 6-2, 6-1. In the Gold Singles,
Alexandra Savu dropped the No. 4 match, 6-3, 6-4, but
Gia Graziano and
Tanya Fan each emerged victorious. Graziano battles through extra points to win 7-6(5), 6-4, while Fan captured the win in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
To finish out the day, the Big Red took on Dayton in Blue and Gold Singles.
Emma Baker bounced back with a long winded 6-2, 6-7(0), 10-6 match, while Wong and Savu each fell in straight sets in the Blue Singles. Graziano was retired in the No. 4 match, but Fan and Martina Marcia persevered through three, winning (9)6-7, 6-3, 10-8.
On Saturday, the Big Red took on Toledo in doubles to open the day, with Toledo getting the three match sweep. Cornell closed out doubles action against Dayton, where
Jenny Wong and
Alexandra Savu triumphed over the Flyers, 7-6(2) for the lone Big Red win of the doubles matches on day two.
To close out the tournament, the Big Red face Toledo in the Blue and Gold Singles. Zhao dropped a three set match in the No. 1 spot, but Baker and Ryndin again triumphed, each pulling out the victory in straight sets. Wong took the final win of the trip in the No. 4 match, winning a three-setter 6-3, 4-6, 10-4.
The Big Red return to action in the new year when team play begins. The season launches on Saturday, January 20 when Cornell plays host to Fordham.
