PHILADELPHIA -- The Cornell men's tennis team opened day one of the 2023 ITA Men's Northeast Regional Championships with four matches. 

The majority of the action for the Big Red was in the doubles bracket, as three duos competed. Freshman Felipe Pinzon and senior Bradley Paliska paired up for the first time this season, matching up against Saint Francis' Mathis Tremblay and Tyler Nguyen. Both duos battled early, but the redshirt sophomore and freshman duo of Tremblay and Nguyen was too much, as Pinzon and Paliska dropped the match 1-8. Senior Muhammad Dossani and sophomore Noah Eisenberg were the next pairing for Cornell, battling with Binghamton's William Morais Binnie and James McPherson in their first pairing this fall. The pair impressed in the most exciting match on the day for the Big Red, as both sides traded points left and right. However, Dossani and Eisenberg could not close the deal, falling 6-8. Samuel Paquette and Aman Sharma were the last pairing on the day for Cornell. And in their fourth match this season, the junior and sophomore knocked out Rider's Dhruv Tangri and Nathan Slattery, 8-5, to move on to the round of 16. 

Eisenberg was the lone Cornell athlete competing in singles on Friday afternoon, winning the first set of his match against Binghamton's Filipe Costa, 6-4. However, the sophomore would struggle in sets two and three, ultimately losing the match two sets to one (6-4, 3-6, 2-6).

Play resumes from Philadelphia tomorrow, as the round of 16 in doubles begins at 9:00 a.m., while the round of 32 in singles begins at 11:30 a.m.
