ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell field hockey team continued its hot streak, improving to 3-1 in Ivy League play with a 3-0 shutout of Yale on Saturday afternoon at Marsha Dodson Field. The Big Red improved to 8-3, while the Bulldogs slipped to 4-8 (1-3 Ivy).
In a driving rain storm, Cornell dominated form start to finish, holding a 21-3 edge in shots and not surrendering a shot on goal until the final minutes. Senior
Caroline Ramsey tied her own single-season goal scoring record (18) and surpassed the season points mark (41) in the process.
Sophomore
Grace Leahy got the scoring started with her ninth tally of the season during a penalty corner on a nifty feed from
Hanke Govaert, with
Sarah Rogalski finding the back of the cage late in the first half on a pass from
Rease Coleman to add some insurance entering the second half.
Martha Broderick made a single save to record the shutout.
Cornell set the tone early, maintaining possession nearly the entire first quarter, taking four uncontested shots., three of which Yale goalkeeper Luanna Summer turned away. She ended the day with seven stops. Cornell broke through a little more than six minutes into the second quarter on Leahy's score.
Caroline Ramsey got a shot off on a penalty corner that was blocked and ended on the stick of Govaert. She sent a pass in front of the goal, which Leahy was able to get a piece of and sweep into the goal to make it 1-0.
The Big Red's final goal came on a penalty stroke by Ramsey, giving her a record 41 points on the season. Ramsey is the only player in Cornell history to surpass 40 points in a campaign, now doing it twice. She upped her career totals to 110 points and 49 goals, both extending her own school record marks.
With 140 points on the season as a team, the Big Red now ranks second in a season.while its 46 goals stands third. The team's 48 assists is a new school record, surpassing the 47 posted in 2015 and again in 2021.

• The Big Red will close out its five-game home stand when it spends next weekend on Marsha Dodson Field when it will meet Ivy unbeaten Penn on Friday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m., then faces 11th-ranked Syracuse on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.
