ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women's tennis team returns to action on Friday at the Reis Tennis Center when it welcomes Buffalo to East Hill. Doubles action between the Bulls and the Big Red is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Cornell (1-8) is coming off the ECAC Indoor Championships, which were hosted by Dartmouth last weekend. The Big Red won two matches at the tournament as
Lan Mi won at No. 1 singles last Saturday, 6-1, 6-2, against Dartmouth. Junior
Lauren Stein and freshman
Emma Baker claimed the other victory, defeating Penn, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles last Sunday.
Mi has shined in the spring portion of the schedule so far, posting a 7-1 record at No. 1 singles. Stein and Baker have played exclusively at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, and both have posted three wins on the year. Senior
Fatima El Ashram also has three wins on the year, two of which have come at the No. 5 spot.
The Big Red is 4-2 on the year at the top doubles spot with Stein winning a pair of matches with Baker and sophomore
Alexandra Savu.
Scouting Buffalo
Buffalo enters this weekend's match with a 2-2 record on the spring season, having defeated Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Siena each by 7-0 scores. The losses for the Bulls came to Youngstown State, 5-2, on Feb. 10, and 7-0 to Syracuse on Feb. 13.
Cornell defeated Buffalo, 6-1, last season on March 11. The Big Red swept doubles action before taking five of six singles matches. Mi (No. 1), Stein (No. 3), and Savu (No. 6) posted straight-set victories for Cornell.
The Big Red has won its last three meetings against Buffalo, dating back to the 2012 season.
Looking Ahead
Cornell will host James Madison on Friday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. to conclude a short two-match homestand. Following a road match at Duquesne on Monday, Feb. 27, the Big Red opens a four-match homestand against Colgate on Sunday, March 12.
