Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey Rolls Past RPI, 6-2

ITHACA, N.Y. - Women's ice hockey traveled to take on the RPI Engineers in an ECAC Hockey battle. The Big Red had a four goal explosion in the final period to earn a 6-2 victory at Houston Field House.

The teams played at an even pace throughout the opening period of play. Late in the period RPI committed a crucial penalty giving the Big Red the woman-advantage. Mckenna Van Gelder made it count as she tipped in a pass from Izzy Daniel and Gillis Frechette, giving Cornell the 1-0 lead after one.

The second period was also played strong by both ends. RPI found an opportunity on the break as Ellie Kaiser put the puck in the net to tie the game. Gabbie Rud took things into her own hands late in the stanza, registering an unassisted goal to put the Big Red back in front 2-1.

The Big Red did not waste any time extending their lead, registering two goals less than three minutes into the third period from Gillis Frechette and Rud. RPI responded on a power play goal from Marah Wagner. Lily Delianedis had an answer for the Engineers rally attempt, putting the Big Red ahead 5-2. Frechette put in her second tally of the contest to put the game on ice.
