DAY 3: More Broken Records For the Big Red

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Cornell men's swimming and diving finished the third day of the Ivy League Championships with a new school record in the 400 yard Medley Relay at Brown.

The day opened with Chris Kostelni and Vlad Gilszmer finishing at 9:24.56 and 9:30.25 in the 1000 yard Freestyle, good for 21st and 22nd overall. Four Big Red advanced to the 100 yard Butterfly finals. Joseph Gurski won the B Final with a time of 47.26, good for third fastest in program history. Jeremy Marcin also set a top-10 time, narrowly missing his last season record of 47.69 with a time of 47.76. Jacques Grove swam a 48.18 and Andrew Lin swam a 48.42.

Jack Valiquette represented Cornell in the A Final of the 400 yard IM, finishing seventh overall with a time of 3:52.99, good for fourth fastest in Big Red history. Dominic Edwards, Jack Banks, and Daniel Simoes each advanced to the 200 yard Freestyle Final. Edwards competed in the B Final, finishing 13th overall with a time of 1:37.40, a time that ranks fourth fastest in Cornell history. Banks also clocked a top-10 time at 1:38.83, and Simoes narrowly missed the record books with a time of 1:39.38.

Sebastian Wolff and Jacob Bass each raced in the A Final of the 100 yard Breaststroke, finishing 5th and 7th overall. Wolff touched the wall at 52.86 and Bass at 53.56, times that rank second and third in Big Red history. Thatched Dowdy also competed in the 100 Breast stroke. He placed 23rd overall with a time of 55.28. Cornell had five representatives qualify for the 100 yard Backstroke Finals. Paige daCosta finished with a time of 47.66 in the A Final, good for fourth best all-time. Pietro Ubertalli and Logan Holt each also notched top-10 times in the B Final. Will Taner and Andrew Lin tied for 18th and 22nd overall.

The 400 yard Medley Relay team of daCosta, Wolff, Gurski, and Edwards concluded the day with a new school record with a time of 3:11.53, taking down the 2020 time of 3:11.62.
