Swidorski Hits First Collegiate Home Run in Loss to James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison used a pair of three-run innings in the third and fourth innings to defeat the Cornell baseball team, 9-2, at a chilly Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday afternoon.

Kyle Novak went 2-for-2 while driving in a game-high five RBI in the victory for the Dukes, who brought its record to 3-3 on the year with the win.

Ryan Murphy yielded three hits over four innings for James Madison. Todd Mozoki and Joe Vogatsky combined to scatter four hits over five shutout innings of relief.

Seven Cornell batters recorded one base hit in the setback. Freshman infielder TJ Swidorski had the biggest hit on the day for the Big Red, as he recorded his first collegiate home run in his first at-bat in the second inning, which give Cornell a 2-1 lead.

James Madison initially took the lead on an RBI double by Fenwick Trimble in the home-half of the first after the first two Dukes batters drew walks against freshman right-hander Ethan Hamill, who was making his collegiate debut.

Hamill, who was on the losing pitcher of record, allowed four runs on three hits while walking five in three innings of work.

Novak drove in five of the Dukes' six runs that were scored over the third and fourth innings. A three-run home run in the third brought James Madison ahead, 4-2, before recording a two-run single with the bases loaded in the fourth.

Mason Dunaway logged an RBI double before Novak's two-run single in the fourth to further increase James Madison's lead.

Jacob Steinberg tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth with a two-out, two-run single.
