The 2023 Ivy Championships Conclude with Six New Records

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Two more Cornell records fell in the final day of the 2023 Ivy League Swim and Dive Championships, held at Brown. Joseph Gurski and Pietro Ubertalli etched their names atop the Cornell all-time top-10 lists in the 200 yard Butterfly and the 200 yard Backstroke.

The first event of Saturday's finals was the 1650 yard Freestyle. Vlad Gilszmer and Chris Kostelni finished 21st and 23rd overall. Ubertalli and Paige daCosta finished 3rd and 5th in the A Final of the 200 yard Backstroke. Ubertalli's 1:42.66 and daCosta's 1:44.51 rank first and sixth all-time at Cornell. Logan Holt tied for first, 17th overall, in the C Final of the same event at 1:46.00, a time good for 9th all-time.

Sebastian Wolff finished 12th overall in the 100 yard Freestyle with a time of 44.06, the third fastest time in Big Red history. Dominic Edwards finished closely behind with a time of 44.65. Jack Banks wrapped up the C Final of the same event with a finish at 45.03. Jacob Bass, Jack Valiquette, and Thatcher Dowdy raced the 200 yard Breaststroke. Bass finished fifth overall at 1:55.72, the second quickest time in Big Red history. Valiquette finished atop the C Final with a time of 1:58.88, the seventh fastest finish for Cornell. Dowdy wrapped up the C Finals with a finish at 2:02.98.

Gurski, Jacques Grove, and Andrew Lin advanced to and raced in the 200 yard Butterfly. Gurski's time of 1:45.20 surpasses the previous Cornell record and is good for 8th overall at the championships. Grove finished with a time of 1:46.41, good for 6th fastest all time. Lin wrapped up the solo races with a finish at 1:48.70. The Big R ed finished the season with a fifth place finish in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay by Wolff, daCosta, Banks, and Edwards. 2:56.03 was the finish, second quickest in the Big Red record books. Wolff's leg, with a time of 43.64, goes down as a new Cornell record in the 100 yard Freestyle.
