ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell sophomore wrestler
Julian Ramirez has been named the EIWA Wrestler of the Week after a pair of big wins to help the Big Red complete an unbeaten Ivy season en route to its 42nd title in conference history. He is the third Big Red wrestler to earn weekly honors from the EIWA, joining
Chris Foca (Dec. 27, 2022) and
Vince Cornella (Jan. 9, 2023).
Ramirez topped 2022 NCAA finalist and previously unbeaten Quincy Monday during Saturday's win over Princeton, 10-6. Trailing 6-5 in the third period, Ramirez picked up a late takedown and two near-fall to rally for the win. On Sunday, Ramirez defeated Penn's Lucas Revano 4-2 to help Cornell earn the victory over the Quakers and claim its 42nd Ivy League title.
At 19-3 on the season, Ramirez entered last week ranked No. 8 nationally for the No. 5 Big Red, which improved to 11-2 on the year.
