DALLAS — The No. 21-ranked Cornell men's tennis team fell to SMU, 5-2, on Friday evening at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex.
SMU took the first point in doubles after the Mustangs posted victories at the top two positions. The tandem of junior
Samuel Paquette and freshman
Petar Teodorovic claimed a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position.
The victory was solidifed by SMU when it won the first three singles matches at the No. 3, No. 2, and No. 4 positions.
Sophomore
Radu Papoe won via forfeit against Adam Neff. Papoe won the first set, 6-2, before the two players engaged in an extensive tiebreak that favored Neff, 6-2, 6-7 (9-7).
Nathan Mao was the other Big Red player to claim a victory in singles, posting a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (4) victory at the No. 5 spot.
Looking Ahead
Cornell, who is now 11-2 on the year, will return to action next weekend when it travels to University Park, Pa., to take on Penn State, who are currently ranked No. 57 nationally on Saturday, March 18.
