Williams, Charles Outduel Jumpers During Multi-Meet Outdoor Opener

ITHACA, N.Y. - Men's track and field split up for competitions at the Auburn Classic and Penn Challenge to open the outdoor campaign. Smith Charles led the way in the long jump, setting his best outdoor mark at 7.25-meters. Jelani Williams earned a win in the triple-jump with his distance of 13.59-meters, beating out jumpers from the likes of Lehigh, Army, and Princeton.

At the Penn Challenge, Noah Cummings (1:56.72) and Robert Enck (1:56.94) ran their way into the top-five of the 800-meter event, coming in third and fourth, respectively. These times sit as the all-time best for both runners in their outdoor endeavors. Quinn Baker and Tyler Canady were top-10 finishers in the 3000-meter run, completing with times of 8:33.62 (Baker) and 8:36.34 (Canaday). The Freshman duo set a solid outdoor baseline mark for their bright careers to come. Pelham Bergesen was another Big Red top-10 finisher who set a personal best, with his 4:02.85 finish in the 1500-meter run. Brad Morel competed in three throw events coming fourth in two of them (shot put and hammer throw) and third in the discus. Morel's distance in the discus- and hammer- throws were good for his career-best (53.37- and 59.15-meters, respectively).

At the Tiger Track Classic, the Big Red produced eight top-six finishing marks, which included Domenic Barresi (100-meter dash), Ryder King (110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles), Joshua Gittens (400-meter dash), Fabien De Silva (400-meter dash), Jack Daly (400-meter hurdles), Jeff Yang (400-meter hurdles), Gabe Czako (400-meter hurdles), along with the 4x400 relay group of De Silva, Mazero, Daly, and Gittens. King, Gittens, Yang, and Daly produced their all-time best outdoor times.

Next Action
The Big Red will be back in action on April 1st for competition at the Stanford Invite and the UConn Dog Fight.
