ITHACA, N.Y. — The No. 30-ranked Cornell men's tennis team will host No. 34-ranked VCU at the Reis Tennis Center on Sunday, opening a two-match homestand for the Big Red.
Doubles action between the two ranked opponents is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Cornell (12-2) is coming off a dominant victory over then-No. 60 Penn State, 6-1, in University Park, Pa., last weekend. Four of Cornell's five points won in singles action came in straight sets.
A victory on Sunday would ensure the Big Red's best 15-match start to a season since also going 13-2 in the spring portion of the 2015-16 campaign.
Sophomore
Radu Papoe continues to be among the top 125 players in the ITA's singles rankings, as Papoe is ranked No. 95.
Scouting VCU
VCU enters the contest with a 12-4 overall record and 2-0 in Atlantic 10 play.
The Rams are playing its third consecutive Ivy League opponent after it fell to then No. 7-ranked Harvard, 4-3, and had its match suspended against No. 51 Princeton last Sunday in San Diego, Calif.
Charles Bertimon (No. 67) and Matisse Bobichon (No. 93) were recently added to the ITA's singles rankings, which were updated on Tuesday.
Cornell and VCU are meeting for the second consecutive season as the Rams posted a 4-0 victory last March 26 in Tampa, Fla. The Big Red last defeated VCU on Jan. 27, 2019, in Columbus, Ohio, at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, 4-1, as
Alafia Ayeni was one of three Big Red players to post a straight-set victory in the top singles match.
Looking Ahead
Following the match with VCU, Cornell will host its final non-conference match of the season when it welcomes Western Michigan to the Reis Tennis Center on April 1. Doubles action between the Broncos and Big Red is scheduled for 1 p.m.
