SALT LAKE CITY — Former Cornell forward
Emeka Eneli has signed a Major League Soccer contract with Real Salt Lake, the team announced Friday afternoon.
Eneli has signed a one-year contract, with club options for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 seasons.
One of three first-round picks by Real Salt Lake in this past December's MLS SuperDraft, Eneli joins Ilijah Paul (7th overall) and Bertin Jacquesson (16th overall) as Generation adidas signings to the club's roster.
Following the conclusion of his collegiate career on East Hill, Eneli spent the previous 10 weeks doing preseason training with Real Salt Lake and the Real Monarchs, an MLS Next PRO team.
This past season, which featured the Big Red reaching the third round of the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship since 1975, Eneli registered 21 points (seven goals, seven assists), while being named a Second Team All-American.
With an appearance with Real Salt Lake, Eneli would become the second player to reach the MLS after playing for the Big Red. David Mahoney played three games for the Chicago Fire in 2005.
The first potential appearance Eneli could have with Real Salt Lake comes on Saturday when it hosts St. Louis City SC, a new expansion franchise, at 9:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. MT).
