Softball Drops Series Opener To Yale, 8-2.

ITHACA, N.Y. - Softball took the diamond at Niemand-Robison Field for the first of the three-game Ivy-League series against Yale. The Bulldogs opened up the game with a four-run inning which would propel them to a 8-2 victory over the Big Red on Sunday evening.

Carolyn Skotz opened up the action as she singled to left center, which would ultimately advance her to second base due to a throwing error. Skotz would score the opening Bulldog run on a hit (single) by Willa Ferrer. Yale would follow that with three more first-inning runs coming from Lauren Perren, Ferrer, and Sophie Woodridge.

After a scoreless first three innings, the Big Red began its rally efforts at the plate. Standout first-year infielder Sydney Stapf doubled a hit to left center, which sent Emma Antich around the bases for a Big Red run. Stapf found her way to the plate on Celia Macari's single, trimming the Yale lead to 4-2.

Grayson Vives and Sam Goodcase would help the Bulldogs would extend their lead to 6-2 in the sixth stanza, scoring one run apiece, respectively. Yale sealed the deal in the final inning, smashing two home runs in two consecutive batters, to take the first game of the series against Cornell. Hannah Turner earned her first win of the season on the mound, while Gabrielle Maday dropped to 4-3 on the year.
