NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Cornell women's tennis team closed out its regular season slate on Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 setback to Yale at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
Cornell concludes the 2023 spring portion of its season with a 5-16 overall record and a 1-6 mark in Ivy League play. With the win, Yale improved to 11-13 on the year and 3-4 in Ancient Eight play.
Yale took the doubles point as the Bulldogs' top two tandems posted victories. Rhea Shrivastava and Vivian Cheng defeated sophomore
Alexandra Savu and senior
Fatima El Ashram, 6-3, while Chelsea Kung and Ann Wright Guerry edged sophomore
Lan Mi and junior
Lauren Stein, 6-2.
Cornell's freshmen duo of
Emma Baker and
Gia Graziano posted a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Sophia Zaslow and Jamie Kim.
In singles action, Mi and Graziano each registered straight-set victories in the No. 1 and No. 6 matches, respectively. Mi dropped just three games while Graziano conceded five games.
Victories in matches at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles aided Yale to the victory over the Big Red.
Baker was ahead of Wright Guerry, 5-4, in the second set after losing the opening set, 6-2, when play was called the outcome of the match was already determined.
