JACKSONVILLE, Fl. - Cornell men's track and field began competitions at the 2023 NCAA Eastern Region Preliminary Round on Wednesday. The Big Red was represented in nine events over the course of the day.
Christian Martin set a new Cornell record in the 110-meter hurdles (13.70 seconds), and will move on to the quarterfinal round on Friday.
Damian Hackett represented well in the 1500-meter run, clocking a 3:46.87 time which reserves him a spot in Friday's round.
Perry Mackinnon punched his ticket to the NCAA Finals in Austin, TX after placing fourth (29:02.74) in the 10,000-meter run semi-finals.
Cornell 10,000- and 5000-meter run record-holder Mackinnon will return to the course for the 5k semi-finals on Friday. The men will also field a 4x400 group of
Tomas Kersulis, Domenic Baressi,
Michael Mazero, and
Joshua Gittens that is poised to have success in their debut. Although they fell short of qualifying on Wednesday,
Smith Charles (high jump), and
Brad Morell (discus) will have another opportunity to advance in field events.
