ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell and Dartmouth took the diamond at Niemand-Robison Field for a doubleheader to kick off the three-game Ivy-League series on senior weekend. The Big Red put on a pitching clinic in the opener, recording a shutout against the Big Green, 3-0. The Cornelians recorded another victory in the second game, winning 10-1 in run-ahead rule fashion.
Game One
Cornell set the tone early in the first inning by holding Dartmouth to one hit and putting two runs on the board from
Celia Macari and
Maicie Levitt. The next player to find home plate came from a sacrifice fly in the third by
Lauren Holt, driving in
Maicie Levitt and taking the score to 3-0.
The two teams would battle it out for the next four innings with neither team being able to gain the upper hand and put up any runs. The Big Red would claim the first victory of the day, winning 3-0.
Gabrielle Maday completed the shutout from the mound. This marked Cornell's first shutout of the season, and first against an Ivy-League opponent since 2018.
Game Two
The Big Red was once again the first to score thanks to a sacrifice fly by Celie Macari that allowed
Kate Callaway to dart to home plate. Cornell's offense came alive in the third inning, posting five runs to Dartmouth's zero.
Lauren Holt's double earned two runs from
Emma Antich and
Maicie Levitt. A single by Lily Travieso drove in Holt along with
Celia Macari, taking the score to 6-0. In the fourth inning,
Kate Callaway made it to third on three pitches after hitting a single, stealing second, and earning third on a wild pitch, putting her in position to score the seventh Big Red run of the game due to a base hit by
Maicie Levitt.
The Big Red would continue its run-spree when Levitt was driven in by
Lauren Holt. Holt herself would find home plate a few plays later thanks to a double by
Sydney Stapf, taking the score to 9-0. Stapf would mark the final run of the inning a few batters later, taking the Big Red into a double digit lead. Dartmouth would finally put themselves on the board for the first time all day in the fifth inning, earning one run. A double play by Cornell, however, would prevent any further scoring by the Big Green, ending the game in the fifth inning per the run-ahead rule.Â
