AUSTIN, Tx. -
Perry Mackinnon will take the course on Wednesday in Austin, Texas to represent Cornell in the 10-000-meter run at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor National Championships. The Big Red has a track record of success in distance competitions at the championships, most recently coming from
Rhys Hammond in the 2022 NCAA Championships rendition of the 1500-meter run where he set the best mark in school history.
Mackinnon has consistently proven to be a top distance-runner in the country this year, surpassing numerous milestones over the course of the season. Perry eclipsed Brian Clas's 30-year standing 10,000-meter Cornell record at the Stanford Invitational this year by 27 seconds with a time of 28:33.90. At the Payton Jordan Invitational, he went on to rewrite the Big Red record books again, this time in the 5000-meter run where he clocked 13:33.81. The standout pacer would follow those efforts with back-to-back performances coming at the Ivy-League Heptagonal Championships and the NCAA Eastern Preliminaries, where he went on to claim second- and fourth-place results respectively en route to an NCAA Championships qualification.
