WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Big Red opened its 2023 fall season on Friday during day one of the Wake Forest Invitational hosted by the Demon Deacons.
All four Cornell athletes competed in both singles and doubles. Freshman
Felipe Pinzon debuted for the Big Red, falling in straight sets to Clemson's Maxwell Smith (6-4, 6-0). Senior
Muhammad Dossani also fell in singles for Cornell to Texas Tech's Piotr Pawlak in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).
Sophomore
Aman Sharma picked up a straight sets win over Clemson's Stewart Aronson (7-5, 6-4), while junior
Samuel Paquette battled back after losing the first set to squeak out a tight victory over Clemson's Trey Stinchcomb (4-6, 7-6, 7-5).
On the double side, the Big Red split its two matches in the afternoon. Pinzon and Dossani teamed up to defeat Stewart Aronson/Trey Stinchcomb (7-5), while the pair of Sharma and Paquette fell to Wake Forests' Harry Thursfield and Saud Alhogbani (6-4).Â
The Big Red returns to action at 9:00 a.m. Saturday for day two of the invitational from the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
