WINSTON SALEM, N.C. -- The Cornell men's tennis team wrapped up its first competition of the fall Sunday at day three of the Wake Forest Invitational.

It was a back-and-forth battle for all four Big Red athletes on the singles side. Freshman Felipe Pinzon took the first set over Texas Tech's Reed Collier but could not keep the momentum, losing in three sets (6-2, 0-6, 6-7). Aman Sharma was next for the Big Red with a matchup against Texas Tech's Piotr Pawlak. The sophomore cruised through the first set 6-1 but ultimately fell in three (1-6, 7-6, 6-3). Samuel Paquette matched against Tennessee's Filip Pieczonka, losing a contentious first set 7-6. Paquette battled back to win the second and force a decisive third. However, the junior could not take control, losing in three (6-7, 6-3, 2-6). Muhammad Dossani rounded out the singles competition for the Big Red, falling to Tennessee's Filip Apltauer (3-5).

On the doubles side, Cornell went 1-1 in the afternoon. Pinzon and Dossani took down the Wake Forest pairing of Saud Alhogbani and Vikas Deo (6-4), while Paquette and Sharma fell to Texas Tech's Reed Collier and Piotr Pawlak (2-6).

The Big Red will continue its fall schedule next week, sending players to Chowderfest hosted by Ivy League foe Harvard and the Binghamton Championships in Vestal, N.Y. Both events will begin on Friday, Sept. 22, and end on Sunday, Sept. 24.
