LAST TIME OUT
Two-goal halves aided No. 14-ranked Princeton to a 4-2 victory over Cornell in women's soccer action at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium on Friday night.
Jen Estes and Aria Nagai found the back of the net in the first half before Marissa Hart and LexiHiltunen tacked on insurance markers in the latter period for the Tigers.
Senior defender Kendall Patten foiled Princeton's attempt at a clean sheet when she registered her first collegiate goal on a feed from freshman midfielder Brooke Brown in the 80th minute. Sophomore midfielder Abigail Bishara further trimmed the lead with a goal five minutes later.
Bishara's classmate, sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Medugno, made a career-high seven saves in the setback. Three of Medugno's seven stops came against the reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Pietra Tordin, who entered the match with a Princeton-leading nine goals.
NOTHING BUT NET
Dating back to last season, Cornell has scored in each of its previous nine matches, marking the longest goal-scoring streak since establishing the program record of 13 in 2003.
With a goal on Tuesday, Cornell will register its fourth instance of scoring a goal in 10 consecutive matches, also done in 1988, 2000, and 2003.
Thanks to Abigail Bishara's goal against Princeton on Friday, Cornell already has four players with multiple goals scored this season. It is the most multi-goal scorers in a season for the Big Red since also having a quartet of players in 2014.
Should another Big Red player log multiple goals this season, it would be the first time Cornell has had at least five multi-goal scorers in a single season since 2013 (5).
HOME, SWEET, HOME
After losing its home opener last season, Cornell is unbeaten over its previous nine home matches (4-0-5).
The Big Red's nine-match home unbeaten streak is tied for the longest in program history, matching the record set over the 1985 and 1986 seasons (8-0-1).
Should Cornell extend its home unbeaten streak to 10 matches on Tuesday, the Big Red would become the 21st program with an active 10-match home unbeaten streak.
STUCK IN THE MIDDLE
After setting the single-season record for ties with five last season, Cornell is already on the verge of matching that mark this season.
Cornell has played to four draws so far this season, which is tied for the second-most in a season along with the 2002 (8-5-4) and 2015 (9-4-4) seasons.
Before its loss to Princeton on Friday, Cornell had drawn in three consecutive matches, the second time in program history in which three successive contests had resulted in ties. The other instance occurred when the Big Red tied with Providence and St. John's at the 2002 ECAC Tournament and drew with Stony Brook in the 2003 season opener.
ANCIENT EIGHT'S SUCCESS
Through matches completed on Sunday, the Ivy League has excelled on the pitch, registering a combined 39-13-15 record, leading to a combined .694 win percentage, pacing all Division I conferences that sponsor soccer. The Ivy League has a 28-point lead over the SEC (81-32-35 — .666) and a 31-point advantage over the Big Ten (82-34-32 — .662).
Entering Monday's contests, all eight members of the Ivy League have win percentages of at least .500, and six Ancient Eight programs boast at least .600 win percentages.
SCOUTING COLGATE
Colgate enters Tuesday's match with a 2-7-2 overall record and a 1-1-1 mark in Patriot League play.
After opening the year with five goals in its first two contests, Colgate has mustered just three goals over its last nine matches — two of which came in a 2-0 victory over Navy on Saturday.
Ari Bezanson has a team-leading four goals for the Raiders, while Ana Schremp (two goals) is the only other Colgate player with multiple goals. Cara Schmidlein and Ally Giovino (two assists apiece) have factored in multiple Colgate goals so far this campaign.
Alli Popham has been Colgate's go-to goalkeeper this season, having started all 11 contests for the Raiders. She has a 2-6-2 record with a 1.62 goals-against average and a .646 save percentage.
Emma Hickey is the only other Colgate goalkeeper to log action behind Popham. Hickey played 45 minutes against Colorado on Sept. 10, conceding a pair of goals to the Buffaloes while making one save.
COLGATE'S LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders are coming off a 2-0 victory over Patriot League rival Navy at Beyer-Small '76 Field in Hamilton on Saturday.
Ari Bezanson netted the eventual game-winning goal by opening the scoring in the ninth minute. Cara Schmidlein tacked on an insurance marker in the 76th minute.
Alli Popham made three saves en route to the clean sheet for the Raiders.
40 YEARS, 68 MILES, 43 MEETINGS
Cornell has won the last two meetings against its Central New York rival despite Colgate maintaining the lead in the series, 22-17-4.
Contests between Cornell and Colgate have generally been close, as the last three and seven of the previous eight matches have been decided by one goal or less.
The Big Red seeks to increase its win streak over Colgate to three matches. Cornell has not had that long of a win streak over the Raiders since posting seven consecutive wins over the Raiders from 1986-92.
